1. Have a great idea or plan for your business
2. Write a good business plan (or get help writing one for your business)
3. Do plenty of market research on the business idea (what is the market size for your idea, how big is it, what is the size and worth of the market, who else is in it, what can be improved upon, what are the risks to the business and market etc.)
4. Do your competitor research (know who you are competing against, what they do well, what they don't do well, pricing, points of sales, ways they market their business etc.
5. Get funding for your business (whether this is from a bank, savings or an investor) work out what you need to get going and get the funds together.
6. Do a big launch, use a PR company of you can.
7. Be sure not to waste money ( there a million ways you can spend money and far less ways to earn it), so be shrewd, especially in the early days.
8. Negotiate on the price of everything you buy. You can save a fortune.
9. Become big in your niche. Network and mingle with governing bodies, award host companies and other big players in your sector.
10. Use web marketing and other social media and networking tools to promote yourself, your business and what it is that your offering. If you don't have the time, employ someone to do this for you, but make sure it gets done.

2. Put a link to your blog on your email signature and that of your staff's. Also add your twitter and Facebook links.
3. Add your blog and twitter / Facebook links to your marketing literature, leaflets, proposals, power points etc.
4. Put them in any directory listings you have such as Yell and Thomson etc.
5. Add them to your linkedIn and other social media platforms.
6. Tweet your Facebook page and blog link regularly and ask for Re Tweets (RT),
7. Add your Twitter @name and link to blog to Facebook and regularly post it.
8. Do promotions and offers regularly on your blog, twitter and Facebook. Offers in twitter & Facebook can be tied in to you getting so many likes or followers.
